Located south of Basque Country, La Rioja is famous for it’s wine making. Haro is at the centre of it’s wine making and hosts the annual ‘Battle of the Wine’ festival.
Another popular tourist attraction is undoubtedly the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James), a part of which leads through La Rioja. Numerous monasteries high in cultural importance are scattered around this region. Logrono, which was founded by the Romans is the region’s capital. Tierra de Cameros has outstanding landscapes, grottos and caves.
If hunting, fishing, climbing or hiking are high on your agenda, La Rioja is the perfect destination. While in the region you must sample at least one of the seven varieties of La Rioja wine. Also try a local speciality, Pimientos del Piquillo, made of sweet red peppers.
