Viva Espana! Spain may have been the most popular destination among British families for several decades but much of it remains to be discovered. Britons buying homes in Spain – often in the hinterland away from the bustle of the beach areas are more aware of the great beauty of the countryside and its fascinating cultural heritage. The best-known areas among Britons are the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca and Costa Brava but the Costa Almeria and Costa de la Luz are up and coming areas for holidays and buying a sunshine home.
The Mediterranean islands of Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza need no introduction as thriving, sunny and fun-filled holiday spots although the smallest member of the Balearic Islands is one of the undiscovered jewels of Spain.
Back on the Spanish mainland there are huge areas of the country to explore from the mountains of Andalucia, handy for those living or staying on the Costa del Sol, the Pyrenees of the north and fabulous cities such as Barcelona and the Spanish capital Madrid.
