Where to...
La Rioja Set in the Basque Country is famous mainly for its red wine although some Rose’s and whites are produced. This entire region has an abundance of wineries. La Rioja hosts the annual ‘Battle of the Wine’ Festival.
Castilla y Leon Has become Spain’s most fashionable red wine region. Toro is a famous wine, known for its powerful fiery red wines made from the Tempranillo grape.
Galicia Ribeiro is a city with a large wine market where you will find wines from this and the whole of the Galicia region.
The name given to a wine coming from a specific region and possessing particular qualities and character is based on the variety of grape, the wine-making process and aging.
Wines are also classified by the time they have been aged in oak barrels and in the bottle.
RED WINE:
Crianza: Total aging: 2 years (6 months in barrel / 18 months bottle)
Reserva: Total aging: 3 years (12 months in barrel / 24 months in bottle).
Gran Reserva: Total aging: 5 years (24 months in barrel / 36 months in bottle)
